The Blind Side

Authors Note- While reading my book I realized Micheal had all the potential to be an amazing football player but he was missing one thing-Confidence.

Confidence is not something you can be taught. You either have it or you don't. Confidence could determine how well you do something or how you act. Having confidence is being positive, believing in yourself, and taking risks. If you don't believe in yourself you won't be able to accomplish big things. Like Micheal, you could have all the skill or all the potential in the world but without confidence you will never achieve your goals.

For Micheal confidence is the one thing holding him back from being a football superstar. He has the size, the speed, and the skill but he doesn't believe in himself. To me, that's the thing that separates good players from bad. A coach can teach you everything you need to know about the sport but if you don't believe you can do it you will never use the things you have learned.

Micheal finally has learned in the last few chapters that people believe in him. He'd been given fifty invitations to Division 1 football programs, more than a thousand letters from college programs, and dozens of full scholarships. Coaches from all over the United States want him on their team. Everyone seems to believe in him, the only person that doesn't is himself.

Good players believe in themselves, bad players play afraid and scared. No matter how many coaches you have or how many times you practice, confidence is not something you can learn. In the last few chapters, Micheal starts to get confidence in his sports and everything he does.

Life is always changing
Authors Note- While reading people's comments and my last post I realized the last sentence I wrote was very strong. I decided to write just about the sentence, while relating to the book.

Life is full of ups and downs, one day you might be helping someone and the next day they might be helping you. Life is always going to change and the next day will come whether you like it or not. For everyone life is full of ups and downs and you never know what will happen next.

When Micheal Oher walked into the room, everyone knew that this kid was different. They thought he was just some kid who didn't care about anything. Little did they know this boy had, had a tough childhood but he was ready to work hard for everything.  Leigh-Ann took Micheal under his wing and helped him along the way. When Leigh-Ann finally did everything she could, Micheal was a football superstar. The quote works in this situation because Leigh-Ann had payed for Micheal's schooling and sports but after becoming a football superstar he was helping Leigh-Ann and was able to pay her.

While life sometimes seems bad, it will always get better. You might have to go through some hardships, but you'll learn stuff along the way.

 Quote-

Authors Note- This was from the most recent chapter I read in the book. The first paragraph is from Leigh-Ann's point of view. She sees Micheal one day and automatically knows he needs help. She tries to help him but he won't say one word to her.

Her eyes show empathy as she sees the kid walking through the halls. Whether it's the fact that he's the only black kid in school or that he wears the same ripped up jeans everyday, she knows he has problems in his life. He comes to school only telling people what he wants to share. He wants his past to become a secret and it's like he's trying to forget everything that happened to him. The few details they know about him make her feel sorry for him and it's like his whole life is a secret from everybody in the world but him. This part of the book inspired me along with the quote "I didn't want him to think this was some charity thing."

This quote made me really think about things like that in life. There are always going to be people in the world that are less fortunate or have it harder than most people. Whether it is someone with a disability, a sickness, or someone less fortunate you can't help but feel bad for them. While you want to help them you don't want them to know you think they are less fortunate or need the help. This reminds me of Micheal and Leigh-Ann in my book because Leigh-Ann goes out and buys clothes for Micheal, but she doesn't want him to know she feels bad for him.

Life is full of ups and downs and one day you might be helping the less fortunate and maybe another day they might need to be helping you.

Micheal Oher

Authors note-My book is finally getting good and I'm into the story. This poem is about Micheal Oher, the main character. No one knew if his real name was Micheal and they had never seen his dad.

 Micheal Oher,
if that's his real name.

He lives with no family,
and has no dad.

His mom is in rehab,
and is addicted to crack.

His 6'5" frame is intimidating,
and scares all the kids.

He never passed a grade without all D's,
he's never heard of a noun and was never in third grade.

He's good at basketball,
and will soon have a career in football.

 Important Characters-

Authors Note- As you can see I am reading the blind side. It is by Micheal Lewis. So far they aren't even getting into the story. They are still talking about football and random facts.

In chapter three we finally get introduced to three important characters. We first get introduced to Tom Lemming, who is a football recruiter and looks for highschoolers  to play on the All-American Team. The next important character that we start to learn about is Big Tony. His mother just died and she told him to put his son in a Christian school. Finally, we meet Micheal Oher. He was called by Tom Lemming to do an interview for football. He is big and tall and the perfect defensive player. I was surprised because when he was introduced he seemed like he didn't care about anything and he seemed a little depressed. The first few chapters of this book aren't even about the story. Once I read more I will introduce you to more characters.

  1. Very creative poem Abby...jk. I actually did like it. I thought you should have written a little bit more about if Micheal's real name is Micheal.

  2. I like the idea behind this poem but I think next time you write a poem like this you should edit it a little more like you should add more descriptive words. I also recommend that you pick a style of poetry. Like having the last word of every other sentence rhyme, a pattern of syllables, etc. But otherwise I enjoyed it. It was a short, fun, way to get a little summary and response in there.

  3. On the quote piece

I liked how you were able to make lots of connections to the book. Also, the last sentence was very strong. It may have been good to have that as the main part of your writing piece.

  4. In your most recent piece I liked the middle paragraph because it was the most organized and you were relating it to that quote. The last paragraph could have been better-just because it wasn't about your whole topic and that's what conclusions are supposed to be about. Your voice was really nice though.
